An Adolescent Questions Her Drinking Pals To Find Out More About Alcohol Addiction And Alcohol Abuse
Heather drank on a usual basis with her pals. One Monday after school she began reflecting on the amount of alcohol she drank on a fairly regular basis and the irresponsible and abusive drinking of her pals. As a consequence of this, she politely asked all of her pals the following question: "what do we really know about alcoholism, binge drinking, alcohol abuse, and alcohol poisoning? Stated differently, how much alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse information do we truly know? For our young age, we obviously drink in an excessive and abusive manner and I am really starting to wonder if all of us are headed for a life filled with alcohol-related difficulties when we become older.
I believe we should go online and learn all that is possible about alcoholism, binge drinking, alcohol abuse, and alcohol poisoning. And then if we have any relevant questions that we cannot comprehend after we do our Internet research, we can go to the student health center at the college and ask Nurse Urbanic to help us understand what we do not know.
It should not come as a complete surprise that what Heather stated would instigate a heated discussion. For example, her best friend since elementary school, Alexis, said that they are too young and too healthy to be worried about excessive and irresponsible drinking. Another classmate named Ryan stated that since most teenagers drink there is no good reason why they should be any different. Another friend named Kylie stated that all she wants to do is to have fun drinking with her buddies. And still another classmate named Dane in reality agreed with Heather essentially because his parents were both alcohol abusers and both of his parents had a history of alcohol related difficulties.
Heather openly mentioned to her friends that she understood everything that they had said but that involving oneself in abusive and unhealthy drinking at such a susceptible age in truth cannot be very healthy or something that contributes toward establishing a meaningful life. When two or three of her pals asked what kind of alcohol difficulties Heather was discussing, Heather articulated the following: alcohol-related diseases such as cirrhosis of the liver, heart disease, and cancer, and other alcohol-related problems like alcoholism, alcohol-related traffic accidents and fatalities, and alcohol poisoning (which can be fatal in some instances).
When Heather then mentioned that excessive and hazardous drinking often results in financial, school, legal, and relationship problems, some of her drinking friends finally began to comprehend how comprehensive and how devastating careless and excessive drinking can be. Indeed, some of her friends opened up and began to explain how these alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse effects had negatively affected some of their friends and their parents.
After going over some of the alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse problems that are related to excessive and hazardous drinking, the vast majority of her drinking friends liked the idea about getting information online. They were, however, cautious about discussing their drinking situations with the administrators at school. As Heather reflected on this she whispered to herself, "at least they want to learn more about their hazardous and abusive drinking. This is a very fine start."
